Fiddler

Once per game, the Demon secretly chooses an opposing player: all players choose which of these 2 players win.

I'll wager mi lyef ye cannae best me in a fiddle contest, ye boss-eyed snook! We'll go out on the lash, get the pub jammers an' have a right craic. I'll be layin' ma boots into ya come mornin' ye rumbly muppet.

How to run it (Storyteller)

Add the Fiddler when a game risks feeling lopsided or one-sided toward Good — it gives the Demon a dramatic last-resort tool that can flip the entire endgame. Announce its presence publicly at the start of the game so all players can factor it into their strategy. When the Demon invokes it, privately confirm the choice, then immediately call a public vote where every player simultaneously points to one of the two named players; majority wins, ties go to Evil.

Playing with the Fiddler — as good

  • Build a strong public case for the most trusted Good player before the endgame so that if the Fiddler is triggered, the town is already aligned behind them and the vote is not a coin flip.
  • Identify who the Demon is likely to name as their 'opposing player' — they will pick whoever has the least Good credibility or most suspicion on them, so protect that player's reputation early.
  • Coordinate openly about who is confirmed or highly trusted so that the Demon cannot exploit town disorganization during the sudden Fiddler vote.
  • Do not assume the Fiddler will never be used; play as if it is coming and make sure your best-positioned player is the obvious public choice going into final day.

Playing with the Fiddler — as evil

  • Save the Fiddler for the moment when you are about to be executed as the Demon — triggering it converts near-certain loss into a 50/50 or better if you have seeded enough doubt about the opposing player.
  • Throughout the game, manufacture suspicion toward one specific Good player so that when the Fiddler vote comes, a meaningful portion of the town is already hesitant to back them.
  • Name an opposing player who is not the most loudly trusted member of the town — avoid naming someone with overwhelming public support, as you will almost certainly lose that vote.
  • Minions should subtly defend or 'confirm' the player you plan to name as your Fiddler target, then dramatically withdraw that support before the trigger to maximize confusion at the vote.
